for 1918, with heavy octagonal 30in. barrel, the top left hand flat signed 'MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. USA.' and 'PATENTED OCTOBER 7 1879', marked with the calibre at breech, dove-tailed tunnel fore-sight, buckhorn rear-sight, plain re-blued high-wall falling-block action, central hammer, the top-tang fitted with a possibly period unsigned micro-adjustable folding offset peep-sight, refinished probable replacement walnut unchequered pistol grip butt-stock with raised cheek-piece and fitted with an iron chequered sporting heel-plate, single set trigger, walnut splinter fore-end with inlaid ebony tip, original finish except where noted
